His parents were; George Washington Hartoon, born in February of 1832 in Maryland and Martha L. Roberts, born in July of 1852 in Missouri. They were married about 1862 according to the 1900 Oklahoma census. His maternal grandmother was Delita Roberts born in Tennessee in June of 1824. He and spouse, Martha "Mattie" Theis, had three children; Ruth, Ralph and William all deceased.

Charles B. Hartoon, 77, retired Tecumseh jewelryman and a resident of this county since 1889, died about 4 p.m. Saturday in a local hospital following a extented illness. Final rites will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday in the first Christian Church in Tecumseh with Rev. G. W. Herd and Rev. Vance Horne officiating. Hartoon came to this area with his parents who homesteaded on a farm at the southwest edge of Tecumseh in 1889. He had lived in Tecumseh since that time and has been a member of The First Christian Church in Tecumseh since 1909. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mattie E. Hartoon of the home in Tecumseh; one daughter, Mrs. Laura Ruth Gleckler of Barry, Illinois; two sons, Ralph of Shawnee and Clifford of Fort Smith, Arkansas; two brothers, Perry Hartoon of Yakima, Washington, and Jim of Everson Washington, and six grandchildren.
Burial will be at the Tecumseh Cemetery with Cooper Funeral Home in charge.
