Kent William Davis was released from this mortal world to be reunited with his wife and eternal sweetheart, Loris Rae Heywood on November 19, 2021, at the age of 87. He passed away in Clark County, Nevada, where he resided most of his life. Kent was born January 18, 1934, in Panaca, Nevada, founded by his great-great-grandfather as the first permanent settlement in Southern Nevada. Kent's parents were Boone Daniel Davis and Aileen Bernice Lee, and had one brother, Dan Lee Davis, who was his best friend. Kent grew up in Star Valley, Wyoming, but moved to Las Vegas in 1948. As a Boy Scout, Kent earned the rank of Eagle at age 13. He attended and graduated from Las Vegas High School, where he met Loris, whom he always called Lorey. Kent attended Brigham Young University, but left to serve an honorable mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in the East Germany Mission. After returning, Kent married Lorey in the St. George Utah Temple. Called by the military, Kent and his new bride were stationed at the White Sands Missile Range, assigned to U.S. Army Dental Corps. That assignment changed the course of Kent's life, prompting him to become a dentist. He returned to BYU, but then went to the University of Oregon, graduating with a D.M.D. in Dentistry. Upon graduation, Kent and Lorey went home to Las Vegas, where Kent established a successful practice as a holistic dentist. Kent and Lorey were blessed with six children. Before he passed, his posterity also included 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Kent treasured most the Gospel of Jesus Christ and his family. He served in numerous Church callings, including as a member of the Temple Committee that oversaw the construction of the Las Vegas Temple. Early in his dental career, Kent reduced his work week to four days so he could spend more time with his family, which often involved waterskiing at Lake Mead. Kent was a Renaissance man and entrepreneur. He was a private pilot, frequently using his airplane for family vacations. He designed and, with the help of his family, built his own home, which included a full size single lane bowling alley in the basement. He designed a four-field softball complex for the LDS Church, which was built entirely with donated labor and materials that Kent secured, and where he often displayed his talent as a fast-pitch softball pitcher. Kent was a tireless worker and an example to his family. He exemplified Christ's admonition to "love one another," by reaching out to those that needed a friend. Due to the loving example of Kent and Lorey, all six of their children served LDS missions, earned college degrees, were happily married in the Temple and are endeavoring to raise their own children based on the eternal gospel principles Kent shared with his family and friends. The family and friends Kent left behind will miss him dearly, but they know, due to the faith Kent instilled in them, that he is happily reunited with his parents, his brother, his grandchildren Michael Kent and Lexi Elizabeth, and of course his love and eternal companion, Lorey, who all passed before him. Kent is survived by the families of his children, Steven Kent Davis (wife Sherri) of Lehi, Utah, Chris William Davis (wife Patty Anne) of Las Vegas, Kevin Lee Davis (wife Margaret) of Las Vegas, Kerry Neil Davis (wife Marni) of Las Vegas, Julee Rae Lamps (husband Jeremy) of Huntsville, AL, Darin Daniel Davis (wife Betty Jo) of Little Elm, TX. Viewing will be from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 27, with funeral services to follow, both at the LDS Charleston Chapel, 3400 W. Charleston Blvd, Las Vegas. He will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery in Las Vegas.
