Country and Gospel singer and songwriter. She recorded 36 albums and wrote hundreds of songs. She wrote "Baby's Back Again," which was a top ten hit for Connie Smith, and co-wrote "Hello Love," which was Hank Snow's last number one hit, and was the original theme song for "A Prairie Home Companion." In 1968, she was named Billboard Magazine's Female Country Songwriter of the Year. After recommitting her life to Christ in 1970s, she started writing and recording Gospel music. Some of her most well known Gospel songs include "Jesus Is Alive And Well," Ride Out Your Storm," "On The Way Home," "The Shepherd Of My Valley (What Would I Do Without Jesus)," "He Is Jehovah," "Let Down Your Net," "There Is No Other Fountain," "My Savior's Precious Blood," "To The Glory Of My Father," "Key To The Kingdom," and many others. Her songs have been recorded by numerous artists. She hosted the long running TV program on the Trinity Broadcasting Network called "Up On Melody Mountain" which aired for over 20 years, and in 1997, she published an inspirational autobiography, which was also called "Up On Melody Mountain." In 2012, she was honored by the Artists Music Guild with the lifetime achievement award.
