Mrs. Bertha Ellen Cook Beasley, 97, of Mount Airy, passed away Wednesday afternoon, October 15, 2014, at Central Continuing Care. Mrs. Beasley was born March 21, 1917, in Surry County, the daughter of the late Nathaniel and Hassie McCreary Cook. She retired from Spencer's Inc. after many years of service. She is survived by three grandchildren, Edna Faye Edwards of Mount Airy, Judy Ziglar of King, and Daniel Marshall of Mount Airy; four great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Beasley was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Beasley; a daughter, Louise Beasley Marion; two sons, Edsel Beasley and Ricky Beasley; a granddaughter, Vickie Lynn Coe; and a brother, Johnny Cook. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is in charge of the cremation and serving the family. There are no local services planned. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
