Mrs. Ellen Brittain Hartman Dienhart, 93, of Valdese passed away on Friday, November 26, 2021 at Amorem Hospice of Burke, following a period of declining health.

Ellen was born on July 6, 1928 in Burke County to the late Samuel Brittain and Maude McFalls Brittain. She was a retired secretary in the hosiery, medical and agriculture industry over her lifetime. A few of her varied interests included fishing, bowling, golf and quilting. She was also a poet, writer, artist, and loved a competitive card game.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Herman Hartman and Robert Dienhart, five sisters, and four brothers.

Survivors include her daughter, Debra Hartman Sturkey of Myrtle Beach, SC, and three grandchildren; James Aiken and wife Shannon of Powell, TN, Amanda Madden of Columbia, SC and Samantha Francis and husband John of Columbia, SC. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren; Tatiana Allen, Rorlanda Gilmore, Ciara Torres, Jordon Gilmore, Joshua Aiken and J.C. Franci s, four great great-grandchildren, her fiancé Fred Berry, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at 3:00 P.M. in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service with Rev. Wayne Brittain officiating. Interment will follow at Burke Memorial Park.
