Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, December 3, 2021 at Memorial Lutheran Church, 2228 Lincoln Way, Ames, Iowa. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery in Ames.
Born on February 4, 1936, in Bloomington, Illinois, Faye was the daughter of Bernadine (nee Sigler) and Frederick Heidelberg. She grew up in Bloomington and graduated from Bloomington High School in 1954.
Faye was united in marriage to Arthur Abel on March 2, 1957, in Rockford, Illinois. Faye was a homemaker and mother of three, babysitter of two, Boy Scout Den Mother and Professional Cake Decorator.
In August of 1971, the family moved to Ames, Iowa. Faye worked at the ISU Credit Union, and the ISU Registrar's Office. Her favorite place to work was at Iowa State University's Center of Industrial Research and Service (CIRAS) where she retired from in 2002.
Family, Faith and Friends were very important to Faye. She also volunteered a lot of her time in so many ways. Faye was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church, Women of Memorial Lutheran Church, former Lioness of Ames, former VFW Auxiliary Post 674, and a 25-year sister of the National T.T.T. Society Chapter Iowa-DK of Ames. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing Bridge with her friends, gardening with her husband, Art, cooking, and taking care of her grandchildren and being with family.
Faye is survived by her children: Gregory (Michelle) Abel of Bremerton, Washington, Kathleen Birdsall of Ames, and Randal (Lori) Abel of Ames; grandchildren: Jake Birdsall, Riley (Shelbey Ellsworth) Abel, Ellie (Anthony) Colón, and Shayna (Carter Clayberg) Abel; great-grandchildren: Axton and Boston Colón; Sister Frieda (Heidelberg) Clausen; cousins and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
