Gena Elizabeth Davis left this earth to be with her heavenly father on November 25, 2021. She was born and grew up in Verona, Mississippi. After graduation she attended Mississippi State where she obtained her bachelor's degree in education. Sometime after graduation she went to visit her sister who was in the Air Force stationed at Lackland AFB in San Antonio. This is where she met the love of her life, George Howard Davis, who was also serving in the Air Force. After a mere two months of dating, George couldn't stand the thought of her going back to Mississippi so he proposed and she accepted. While her husband finished out his time in the Air Force as a Drill Instructor at Lackland, she worked as an elementary school teacher in the San Antonio school district. When his time was up in the Air Force, they made their way to Fort Worth and then ultimately to Burleson, Texas.

Gena and her family became members of the First Baptist Church of Burleson, where she attended faithfully for over 60 years. In the 1970's she was approached by the First Baptist Minister of Education and asked if she would be willing to be the director of the new day care ministry for the church. She accepted and the First Baptist Day Care Center of Burleson was born. It was the first Day Care Center in Burleson, where she ministered to many children and their families in the community for 25 years until she retired.

Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her husband, George Howard Davis, parents Robert and Fannie Lee of Verona, Mississippi, and Grandson Preston Martin of Houston, Texas.

Mrs. Davis is survived by her two sons, John Davis and his wife Jeanna of Forney, Texas and Kenny Davis and his wife Rhonda of Joshua, Texas. She is also survived by her two sisters Martha McFarland of Phoenix, Arizona and Brenda Berryhill of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Her grandchildren Herschel Gibbs, Meagan Gibbs, Rachel Theuer and her husband Lukas, Mitchell Davis, Toby Gardner, Chrystella Emory-Woods and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Laurel Land Cemetery of Fort Worth on Crowley Rd on December 5, 2021 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Burleson, Texas on December 6, 2021 at 10:00 AM. Services to be conducted by Dr. Mike Milburn, retired pastor of First Baptist Church and Lana Schaade, retired Minister of Recreation of First Baptist Church.
