George was a full brother of Sarah Elizabeth (Owens) Anderson, Mae M. (Owens) Lawlis Bruce, and James Francis Owens, children of John Quincy Adams Owens and his first wife, America (Becker) Owens.

George was a half-brother of Sadie (Owens) Keekar, child of John Quincy Adams Owens and his third wife, Melissa Elizabeth (Louden) Owens.

Local Nurse’s Father Dies at Edinburgh Home After Brief Illness.
(Special to The Republican).

Edinburg, Jan. 31. – George C. Owens, age 51, died at his home on Campbell street at 8:20 o’clock last night after a short illness. Funeral services will be conducted from the home Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock in charge of Rev. Glenn O. Mills, pastor of the local Christian church. Burial will be at Rest Haven Cemetery.

Mr. Owens’ death was rather sudden and was a shock to his family and friends. He was taken to the Bartholomew County Hospital two weeks ago today where he underwent a serious abdominal operation and was thought to be getting along well and was moved to his home Thursday. About 8 o’clock last night he became worse and his family was called to his bedside. Death came before a physician arrived.

He was the son of John Q. and Anna Baker Owens and was born at Needham Aug. 29, 1879. He was married to Miss Emma Anthony Sept. 1903 and six children were born of this union. He was a member of the Edinburg Christian church, K. of P., I.O.O.F. and Red Men lodges. He served as justice of the peace and was well known throughout the community.

He is survived by the widow, two sons, Ray and George, Jr., four daughters, Mary Ethel, who is a nurse at the Bartholomew County Hospital; Addie, a student at Ball Teachers college; Elizabeth and Ruth; one sister, Mrs. J.L. Anderson, of Biloxi, Miss., and several nieces and nephews.
