According to family history, he died while living with his daughter Laura Cooper Ellison in the small village of Ledonia (also called Sewell Top) which was located at the top of the New River Gorge above the Town of Sewell. Both Towns have been reclaimed by nature. He is most likely buried in an unmarked grave at the Protestant Cemetery at Ledonia. Coordinates for the cemetery are 37 degree 58' 36.94"N, -81 degrees 0' 50.13"W. Accessible using The Old State Road 19/33 by parking at the last logging road gate and walking about 3000' up the logging road. The Protestant Cemetery is 2 to 3 acres in size.
