Eloise M. Sangston, 78, of Streator passed away Saturday, December 11, 2021 at her home in Streator surrounded by her loving family.

Visitation will be from 4-7 P.M. Wednesday at the Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator. The rosary will be recited at 7:00 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at St. Michael the Archangel Parish Church, Streator. Burial will be in St. Stephen's Cemetery, Streator. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

Born March 3, 1943 in Streator she was the daughter of Frank and Anna (Poruba) Sabol. She married Kenneth D. Sangston on May 4, 1963 at St. Stephen's Church, Streator. He preceded her in death on June 1, 2017.

She is survived by a daughter: Melissa "Missy" (John) Mital of Streator; sons: Kenneth L. (Jennifer) Sangston of Seneca and Kevin (Tari) Sangston of Spring Valley; grandchildren: Amanda, Adam, Rachel, Kenneth B. and Luke Sangston; John, Emerson and Bradley Krasnican and Cal Mital; a sister: Carole (James) Goelzhauser of Evansville, Indiana; a brother: Frank (Cyndy) Sabol of Streator; nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her son: Bradley Kenneth Sangston on January 14, 1986.

Born and raised in Streator she attended St. Stephen's Grade School and graduated from Streator High School in the class of 1961.

She worked for St. Mary's Hospital for 34 years as a Transcriber. She had also worked for Drs. Powers and Gottemoller in the front office for 13 years.

Eloise was a Cub Scout and Girl Scout leader for many years throughout her children's lives. Eloise found joy in the simple things, being in the yard, cooking, keeping her home and spending time with her family. Her 9 grandchildren were her world. Attending sporting events, band concerts, school programs, and graduations was her pleasure. Over the years, Eloise volunteered at the various community Head Start programs and Northwest Elementary School, sponsoring families for Christmas, reading stories, knitting, and donating handmade scarves and mittens.

Her greatest mission was to care for others. She was known for helping her children, grandchildren, and many of their friends with ironing, tying ties, and altering many wedding, homecoming, and prom dresses. Each year she prepared pasta for the Seneca Irish football team Friday night gatherings.

Throughout her life, Eloise sewed on uniform patches for the police officers of the Spring Valley, Seneca, and Marseilles Police Departments, as well as Lee Ambulance. The neighborhood children and grandchildren's friends all called her "Grandma Ellie." Her neighbors and coworkers became treasured friends. Always content being quietly in the background, our mom and grandma was the light of our family in so many lives. How her son, Bradley must have smiled at her, welcoming her at the Gates of Heaven.
