James L. Fuller, possible son of William Fuller and his wife Sarah Card, was born about 1818 in Oneida county, New York according to the 1855 Census, although he was more likely born in Rensselaer county, where the Fullers lived in 1810, 1820, 1840, 1850, and 1855.

James wed Adelia Rebecca Peckham on 10 September 1846 in Oneida County, New York. They were married by Orris Collins, Esq., Justice of the Peace. Adelia, daughter of Samuel Peckham and Rosina Crandall, was born in 1829 in Rensselaer county, New York. James and Adelia had the following children:
Sarah Francis Florine (Fuller) Buel, Mary C. Fuller, Eugene James Fuller, Ellen R. Fuller, Emma N. Fuller, Charles Henry Fuller.

During the U.S. Civil War James L. Fuller agreed for the sum of 150 dollars to take the place of another, younger man in the Union Navy. According to the Enlistment Rendezvous Returns, James enlisted on 6 September 1864 at Erie, Pennsylvania at age 45; he was a farmer, had grey eyes and dark hair, and stood six feet tall. According to the Muster roll of the U.S.S. Fairplay, James L. Fuller died of dissentery whilst on a Navy hospital barge in Smithland, Kentucky on 7 January 1865. James L. Fuller lies buried at Pioneer Cemetery in Fredonia, Chautauqua county, New York.
