Susanna Allen was one of four children born to Samuel Allen of New Kent County, Virginia Colony. She was granddaughter of Valentine Allen and his wife Mary Page. Her sister Judith married Nowell Burton, brother to her husband Hutchins Burton.

Susanna Allen married Hutchins Burton 31 Mar 1719 at St Peters Parish, New Kent, Virginia Colony. Together they were parents to the following eleven children, all born in Henrico County, Virginia:

- Samuel Burton, named after grandfather Samuel Allen, b.1719
- Richard Burton b.1722; d.1779
- Hutchins Burton b.1723
- David Burton b.1725; d.1757
- William Allen Burton, named after Susanna's family,b.1727; d.1773
- Noel Burton b.1729
- Anne Burton b.1731
- Charles Burton b.1734
- Robert Burton b.1736
- Susanna Burton b.1738; d.1815
- Julius Burton b.~1739

Susanna Burton, the widow of Hutchins Burton was about 61 years old at the time of her husband's death in 1763. She lived for at least eight years longer. In 1766 she made a deed of gift to her son William Allen Burton. In 1771 she is recorded in Henrico as follows:
"I, Susanna Burton in the county of Henrico and Colony
of Virginia. . for the mother-like love which I bear to my
daughter Susanna Price.. one negro boy named Toney."
