By Gail Beamer:
Don Beamer, my husband, died on Friday, November 5, 2021 at the Memorial Central Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was born in Roanoke, Virginia on December 1, 1941.
I would like to tell you a little about his life with my children and I (Gail Beamer). He was a good person and a well loved one. I will truly miss him and so will our children.
We have three children – Dawn (DeeDee) Beamer, Melissa (Missy) Beamer, and Brian Beamer, and they all live in Colorado. We have two grandchildren – Meagan Bennett serving in the military, and Christian Bennett who lives in Virginia.
Don and I shared 53 years together. With his work and my work, we had moved at least twenty times or more in our life. Don had to come to Colorado for job training back in the mid 70's. He said if he ever had the chance to move here, this is the place he wanted to be. Back in 1996, my company transferred me to Denver, Colorado to work on the Climax Mine project, and we have been here ever since. Don was a very talented man. In his life time, he wore many hats: a cartographer in the Army, a Game Warden, a rigger on construction projects, sold investment insurance, helped with finding sites for satellite towers,
and many other things. As my company transferred me, he found work.
Don was also very talented. He built a black powder gun and carved a beautiful design in the stock he made; built our bed with wormy chestnut from an old barn he torn down; made leather belts, purses, billfolds, etc. and carved beautiful designs in them; made a large latch hook rug; excellent at faceting many different minerals; did repair work on faceted minerals with chips and scratches; was very handy around the house fixing things that needed attention.
Don has four surviving brothers and one sister– Jerry Beamer in North Carolina, Bill Beamer in Colorado, Doug Beamer in Virginia, David Beamer in Virginia, and Mary Ellen Blankenship in Virginia.
He is very missed by all of us.
