George Benjamin Salisbury III was born in Fredericksburg, VA on August 13, 1939 to George B. Salisbury Jr. and Rita Lee Olive Salisbury. The family moved to Anacostia in Washington DC when George was one. George suffered a great loss at the age of twelve when his beloved mother passed. George grew up in Anacostia where he was surrounded by his extended family. When he was young, George spent much time at the Boy's Club located in DC where he played various sports. He also became involved in roller skating and won some competitions with the skates his father had made him. He was very proud when he took a bronze in dancing and a silver in individual at the National Roller-Skating Championship. George went to Anacostia High School where he played football, basketball and baseball. When George was in his late teens his father met and married Mary Rogers who had two small children named Wanda and Debbie. George embraced his new family and became close with them through the years. George met the love of his life Linda Lee Miller in 1959 and they were married on July 7, 1962. The couple had been together for over sixty years and created a lifetime full of wonderful memories with their family and friends. George became a Marine when he entered the reserves in 1962 and served until 1968. He was a plane captain who was in charge of pre-flighting the planes before the pilots could take off. In 1963, George went to work for Charles G. Stott Paper Company as a sales representative for paper and chemical items. In 1994, the company was disbanded and he became a co-owner of the Washington Paper and Chemical Company until he retired in September of 2004. George and Linda have two sons named Mark and Keith and seven grandchildren. George enjoyed running the family farm as a hobby. At his first farm in Fredericksburg, he raised cows, horses and even pigs. However, his true love was horses and he enjoyed breeding jumpers for his sons to show. In December of 1989, George and Linda bought Chestnut Lawn Farm which is still their home today. His love of horses showed in his late years as he hosted horse auctions, Hanoverian fairs and foal inspections at the farm. In their retired years, George and Linda enjoyed maintaining the farm (they spent many hours on their mowers), caring for the animals and spending time with their grandchildren. George was a man of great faith and loved his Heavenly Father. He looked forward to the day he would finally meet him in heaven. Today, he is rejoicing with the angels and his loved ones who have gone before him.
