Edith Wormood Atkins ("Edee", with an "e") was born onto this Earth on January 19, 1929 and was welcomed back into Heaven on December 19, 2021. The first child of Harry and Edith, she along with her brother and sister were raised in River Forest, IL. She entered The University of Illinois a year earlier than her peers, where she met David Atkins and they married right after graduation. Her degree was in Mathematics but her life calling was to be "Super Mom". With the patience of Job, eyes in the back of her head and her network of spies she raised 5 children, quickly becoming a second mom to all their friends, too. For decades she was a scout mom, cookie mom, field trip mom, swim mom, band mom, lifeguard mom and church volunteer. She could do almost any craft (including knitting without looking), was an amazing seamstress, lived for organization and taught everyone to cook. She became one of the first women elders of her beloved Lakewood Presbyterian Church, was moderator of the Synod and a representative to the General Assembly. Widowed early, she raised the last 3 teens on her own (we said she had patience!) and when the house was emptier she took a job at the Presbytery of Saint Augustine where she was equally as busy for almost 20 years.

She is remembered with love by her children – Shirley, Chuck (Joy), John (Lolly), Bethany (Chip) and Debbie (Rich). Even more loved were her grandchildren (face it, they were not as much trouble) – Cece (Luke), Taylor, David, Mikey, Calista, Adara, Marc, Andrew and Pierce as well as her great-grandson Henrik. Also missing her is the mother of her grandsons - Julia, her brother - Brad (Barbara) and her sister - Judy (John) and numerous nieces and nephews.

Although Alzheimer's stole her memories, a service of remembrance will take place at Lakewood Presbyterian Church, 2001 University Blvd. W., Jacksonville, FL 32217 on January 19, 2022 at 2:00 PM so that these memories continue to live in others. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to LPC at the address above. Wear purple (her favorite color) and join us in person or streaming at https://boxcast.tv/view/the-celebration-of-life-for-edee-atkins---wednesday-january-19-2022---200-pm-830205. And remember - be nice, tell the truth, put it back where it belongs, wear your seatbelt…and all those other "Mom noises".
