Actor. He will be best remembered for his role as 'Worthington' in the classic holiday film, "Scrooge" (1935), which was based on the book by Charles Dickens. The film also starred Sir Seymour Hicks as the crotchety title character, the miser, 'Ebenezer Scrooge.' He is also best remembered for his role of 'Leopold Mozart' in the biographical drama film, "Mozart" (1936), which tells they story of the famous Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. He was born one of five children as Leonard Hubert Stacey Harben in London, England, to Leonard Harben (1851-1927), and his wife Charlotte Mary Storey Harben (1842-1932), on July 12, 1878. He made his actual film debut in the role of 'Cyrus Carve' in the film comedy, "The Great Adventure" (1916). The film which was directed by Lawrence Trimble, and based on Arnold Bennett's novel, "Buried Alive," and which also starred Henry Ainley, Esme Hubbard, and Rutland Barrington, tells the story of a rich artist changes places with a dead valet and weds a poor woman, only to find his valet had a wife and sons. Besides, "The Great Adventure" (1916), and "Scrooge" (1935), his many other film credits include, "Milestones" (1916), "Mr. Pim Passes By" (1921), "Every Mother's Son" (1926), "Uneasy Virtue" (1931), "The Battle Of Gallipoli" (1931), "The Shadow Between" (1931), "Fires Of Fate" (1932), "Timbuctoo" (1933), "The House Of Trent" "The Secret Of The Loch" (1934), "Lady In Danger" (1934), "Lillies Of The Field" (1935), "Fighting Stock" (1935), "City Of Beautiful Nonsense" (1935), "Living Dangerously" (1936), "Dishonour Bright" (1936), "For Valour" (1937), "Victoria The Great" (1937), "A Royal Divorce" (1938), "Old Iron" (1938), "Sucide Legion" (1939), and his last role as Rev. He also appeared in the stage productions of the Rudolf Besier and May Edginton's play, "Secrets" at the Comedy Theatre in London, England, with Fay Compton, Doris Mansell, Fabia Drake, Bobbie Andrews, Cecil Trouncer, Louise Hampton, Margaret Scudamore, Dorothy Holmes-Gore, Ian Fleming, and Mary Clare, and Anton Chekhov's play, "The Sea-Gull" (1925), at the Little Theatre on John Street, in London, England, Adelphi Theatre in London, England, and the Strand Theatre in London, England, with John Gielgud, Miriam Lewes, Valerie Taylor, Randolph McLeod, Ralph De Rohan, Margaret Swallo, Alexander Sarner, and James Whale. He was married to the actress Mary Jerrold (1877-1955), from October 28, 1905, until his death on August 24, 1941. Together the couple had two children, the actress Joan Mary Harben (1909-1953), and the television chef Philip Harben (1906-1970). He was also the father-in-law to actor Clive Morton (1904-1975). He passed away in his native London, England, on August 24, 1941, at the age of 63, and his funeral was held at Golders Green Crematorium in Golders Green, England.
