Jeanne S. Herman, 82, of South Fourth Avenue, Clarion, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2001, in Clarion Hospital.

Born Feb. 6, 1919, in Clarion, she was a daughter of Win S. and Mary K. Underwood-Knapp Smathers.

Mrs. Herman was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Clarion and belonged to the Women's Association of the church. She also was a member of the Clarion Women's Club and was a past member of the Clarion Community Choir. Mrs. Herman loved bridge, music and her devoted pet, Casey.

She was married June 28, 1937, to John E. Herman Sr., who died Sept. 29, 1981.
In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Herman was preceded in death by two grandsons, Sean and Lance Cool, in 1972; and a brother, W. Scott Smathers, in 1992.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Goble Funeral Home of Clarion. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home with Gregg Trunbull and Pastor Kirk Orr officiating. Interment will follow in the Clarion Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Clarion or to the American Cancer Society.
