He was born May 18, 1945, the son of the late Arnold G. Burns and Nora M. Thompson Burns.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Sue Berkhouse Burns and a brother, Charles Burns.
Survivors include his son, Terry Burns and a granddaughter, Tara Renee Burns.
Alan was a Vietnam veteran, worked for Norris Industries, Spencer and the U.S. Postal service. He attended Henry's Fork Baptist Church, Spencer.
His past times included gardening, baseball, gospel music and going to the Committee on Aging.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, December 30 at the John H. Taylor Funeral Home, Spencer, with Rev. Robert A. "Bob" Keen officiating. Burial, with military honors accorded by the WV Army National Guard Honor Guard, will be in the Clover Cemetery, Clover.
The visitation will be one hour before the service.
