Elsa Ann Hartsell.
Elsa Ann Cunningham was born in Queensbury, Vermont, Nov. 21, 1835, and passed away at her home in Deford Mar. 17, 1910. While still young, she came with her parents to East Oxford, Canada, Apr. 6, 1857, she married George Henry Hartsell and to them were born ten children. Of these only three remain, Elias of Caro, Frank of Cohoctah, Mich., and Wellington of Imlay City.
In 1867 Mr. and Mrs. Hartsell moved to Michigan, settling near Attica. In 1887 they removed to Cass City and about 12 years ago came to Deford where they have remained most of the time since. Although Mrs. Hartsell's lot was not cast in the conspicuous circles of life, she was nevertheless a great soul. While others of their abundance gave gifts into the treasury of life, she hath given more than they all, for she of her penury gave all that she had. Her life was on the altar as a sacrifice for those she loved.
Mrs. Hartsell was converted at the age of 17 under the pastorate of a Rev. Lounsbury and she joined the church and continued a faithful member until her death.
She leaves to mourn, her husband, three sons, three brothers and one sister, 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, besides a large number of friends and distant relatives.
The funeral services were held at the Deford M. E. church Saturday, Mar. 19, Rev. Fenn and Rev. Beedon, her pastor, officiating, and the remains laid to rest in Elkland cemetery.
