Charles Lester Adams, Jr. passed away on September 11, 2017. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles L. Adams, Sr. Survived by children, daughter and son-in-law , daughter son-in-law [ omitted their names] granddaughter [ omitted her name] sister Peggy Ingraham and many nieces and nephews. Also survived by step children [ omitted their names].
He was preceded in death by his wife Betty Joan Cothron Adams, to whom he was married from 1964 until her death in 1974. In 1978 he married Nancy Kay Daniel Adams. They were married for 32 years before her death in 2011.
Mr. Adams was born at Vanderbilt hospital in January 1931 and lived his entire life in Nashville. He attended Dan Mills Elementary School where he was active in Boy Scouts and reached the rank of Eagle Scout in 1945. He enrolled in Peabody Demonstration School in 1945 as a freshman, and graduated in 1949. Mr. Adams was active in sports at Peabody and continued his association with the Boy Scouts. He received a degree in Civil Engineering from Vanderbilt University School of Engineering, in 1953. After finishing his education, he was employed by Metro Water Services and retired at age 65 with 25 years of service. He continued his work with the Boy Scouts by serving as a Scoutmaster at Julia Green Elementary School (Troop 27), and served for approximately five years. He was inducted into the Order of Arrow honorary scout group and also received the Long Rifle Award from Boy Scouts Administrative Group. He volunteered as an aviation cadet (training class 56-C) for the U.S. Air Force. After graduating from pilot training, he returned to serve additional time in the TN Air National Guard. After four years of service with the TN Air National Guard, he transferred to the TN Army Aviation National Guard and was a helicopter pilot with Army Aviation for additional years of military service. He was a member of Hermitage United Methodist Church.
Visitation will be at the church on Saturday, September 16, 2017 from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm with the Celebration of Life Service following at 3:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to Hermitage United Methodist Church or Alive Hospice.
