Walter Alexander Shilling, 77, of Knoxville passed away at Iowa Methodist Hospital Monday, April 7 where he had been a patient since April 3. He had been ill for the past three weeks.

He was born June 12, 1891 in Marion County, Iowa the son of Hiram Alexander and Rosa Ann Shirey Shilling. He was united in marriage to Mary Jane Koons on February 28, 1912 in Des Moines, Iowa and the couple made their home on a farm north of Knoxville, then on a farm north east of Pella and in 1942 they moved to a farm north west of Bussey. His wife Mary Jane passed away on October 15, 1957.

He was married March 23, 1959 to Mamie H. Koons.

He was a member of the Free Methodist Church and the Marion County Farm Bureau.

Preceeding him in death were his first wife, Mary Jane, one daughter Zella, his parents and one grandson Dennis Lee.

Left are his wife Mamie, three sons Howard A of Tigard, Oregon; Herman L. of Monroe, Iowa; John D. of Bussey, Iowa. Eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Also five sisters Mrs. Ruth Welch and Mrs. Grace Horton of Tempe, Arizona; Mrs. Elizabeth Hayes of Des Moines, Iowa; Mrs. Mary Welch and Mrs. Bertha Bayless both of Knoxville; two step-sons Marion and Gene Terry both Des Moines, Iowa; one step-daughter Mrs. James (Evalene) [Fenton?] of Des Moines and fifteen step-grandchildren.
