Believed to be the J.H. (John/James) Deboard who died from sickness (typhoid fever or measles) during the Civil War on 25 September 1861 at Valley Mountain, Pocahontas County, Virginia (present day West Virginia). He served as a Private in Co. F 16th North Carolina Infantry Regiment. This regiment was formed in May 1861. Company F was from Buncombe County, North Carolina where John lived .
