José Amado de la Lux Leon was chriestened on September 15, 1885 at Nuestra Senora de la Salud in Abosolo, Mexico. His parents were José Pedro Romualdo Leon and Maria Guadalupe Tafolla. He was married to Eublogia Mejia on January 10, 1912, in Huanimaro, Mexico. During the Mexican revolution, he and his brother, Severo, came to Kansas to work on the railroads and they sent for their families. They settled in Mound Valley and had 10 children. Amado became a US citizen in 1941.
