Dorothy, known as Dottie, was born in Minot, ND to Paul Seaman and Veda (Marsh) Seaman. She passed in North Bend, Oregon at the age of 82. She is survived by her stepson Joseph Brockway (Julie), daughter Lesley Hoppert (Vincent Su) and son-in-law Tom Hunsaker. Her parents, husband Alan Brockway, brother David Seaman and stepdaughter Julie (Brockway) Hunsaker predeceased her.
Dottie and Alan Brockway were also adopted as parents into the family of Mary (Moquino) Benavidez several years after they first met the family in 1973. Through this connection they gained a large, extended family headed by Jose and Mary Benavidez with many children and grandchildren.
Dottie's earliest memories in Minot were of her father, who entertained her by making hand shadow animals on the wall. Dottie, along with her mother and brother moved to Faulkton, SD, by way of Fargo, ND. Dottie grew up mainly in Faulkton and attended school there. Another early memory of Dottie's is a playhouse her mother made her out of a refrigerator box. Dottie loved riding horses and played trombone in her high school marching band. In the summers she worked on a ranch managed by her uncle. Her love of music led her to excel at the piano and organ, and went on to major in music at Yankton College.
Dottie and her first husband, Earl Hoppert, moved to Scotland for study and work. Their daughter Lesley was born there.
Dottie worked various administrative jobs for Honeywell, a law office, churches and non-profit organizations including the YWCA. A favorite job of hers was working with Community Living Alternatives to support people with developmental disabilities. She also played the organ for church services at a federal youth prison. Dottie's passions included justice and peace activism, environmental protection and equality for all people. She volunteered for many different organizations, contributing extensively to Church Women United and other groups over the years.
Dottie and her long-time husband Alan were married in the Denver area. Dottie and Alan's hobbies included gardening and camping, and they were both avid and knowledgeable birdwatchers. Upon retiring, they moved from their Denver home to Estes Park, Colorado and later to Sierra Vista, AZ. Their next adventure was to live for several years in their RV, traveling around the country to visit friends and family and of course, to watch birds. They settled in Oregon in their later years. When Alan passed in 2020, Dottie moved from Bandon to North Bend.
Dottie was beloved by friends and family, who will remember her lively spirit as well as her kind and generous nature.
