Anthropologist. Richard Leakey was a Kenyan palaeoanthropologist, conservationist, and politician. With his discovery of the Turkana Boy fossils he began following in the footsteps of his famous parents, paleoanthropologists Louis and Mary Leakey. His wife Meave Leakey and daughter Louise Leakey are also paleoanthropologists. Among his many publications is The Origin of Humankind. In 1967 his team discovered Omo I, the oldest (233,000 years old) modern human fossils ever found. In accordance with his wishes, Richard was buried on a hill along the Rift Valley.
