Regina 'Gina' Gray Pettus passed away on Jan 2nd, 2022. The family was unprepared for this unexpected loss and are deeply saddened. Gina was born on September 13, 1959 to Kenneth and Maladean Gray and lived in Morton, MS.

Gina was a fierce woman – holding fast to her beliefs, defending those she loved, and always seeking to better herself for her children and her students. Anyone who knew Gina was touched by her kindness, wittiness, and positivity.

Gina began teaching high school English right after college and truly loved it. She was able to stay home while her children were growing up but rediscovered her love for teaching again when her life changed, and she returned to her hometown and began teaching at East Rankin Academy. She often said East Rankin was a gift from God in hard times and we will forever be grateful for the friends she made there.

Gina returned to her alma mater in 2016 and was currently teaching at Morton High School. The impact she made on her students is apparent. We hope her legacy continues to improve the lives of students for years to come.

Gina loved to travel. She would often leave for days with her daughter, Sarah, to travel and shop for the best bargains. She liked to play bunko, scrabble, and dominos with her friends and family. She was an avid reader.

She loved her children deeply and made sure they knew how proud of them she was on a regular basis. Perhaps her greatest joy in the whole world came in February of 2020 when she became "GiGi." Her first grandchild, Gunner, lived next door and they had a special bond. She became GiGi again in December of 2020 to Magnolia Gray, for whom she loved shopping.

Gina is survived by her three children, Hannah Morrison (Chris), Sarah Burns (Aaron), Drew Pettus (Jenny), her grandchildren Gunner Lee and Magnolia Gray, sister Janet Ray (Mark), niece Allison Quick, as well as extended family and an abundance of friends. She is preceded in death by her parents. Gina has missed her mom and dad greatly over the years and we know she rejoiced in Heaven to see them again.

Her smile and determination to see any obstacle through will be greatly missed. However, we find peace knowing she is finally home and is no longer a victim of this cruel world.

Visitation for Regina will be Wednesday, January 5, 2022 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm and Thursday 6, 2022 from 9:00am to 10:45 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Morton; Funeral Service will be 11:00am Thursday, January 6, 2022 at Ott and Lee Chapel. Interment will be in Cooperville Baptist Church Cemetery.
