Orville entered Vanderbilt University at the age of 15, the youngest boy who ever had entered. He graduated in Chemical Engineering in 1889 and Civil Engineering in 1890. He was by profession a chemical and civil engineer with farming, politics, and teaching as side lines. He then settled on his farm near Nashville.
