Teodor was the first son of Teodora Teofilia Wyspiańska née Pytko born outside of marriage. He was adopted by the husband of his mother, great Polish painter Stanisław Wyspiański.
Teodoer was very attached to Stanisław Wyspiański and he did not know Wyspiański was not his biological father. He learnt this only after Wyspiański died in 1908. The death of Wyspiański and the realisation that he was not Teodor's real father was a hard blow for the teenager. He dropped out of secondary school before the final exams and was finally sent to an insane asylum.
