Emmy was a beloved wife, mother and homemaker; a gracious hostess; dynamic organizer of charity events; and a passionate supporter of education and the arts in San Diego. She founded the Salvation Army's "Woman of Elegance" (now called "Women of Dedication") in 1965 to honor outstanding women in San Diego. She was honored as the founder of "Women of Elegance" in 1995 at the "Women of Dedication" luncheon and ceremony. This annual luncheon event is still a prominent fundraiser for the Salvation Army today. Emmy also was the founder and chairperson of "A Night in Monte Carlo" Gala, 1987 and "Visions of India" Gala, 1988, that raised funds for the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego.
Emmy was active on various boards of directors with her husband, Bud Cot, dealer of Courtesy Chevrolet in Mission Valley (1961-1986) that supported the San Diego Symphony, The San Diego Opera and the San Diego Ballet. She and Bud supported the fledging UCSD during the 1960s by organizing local UC alumni to donate funds to the new school. In the late 1990's, Emmy founded and orchestrated a monthly lecture/luncheon series called The Colleagues, which presented prominent artists to speak, as a fundraiser for the Stuart Collection at UC San Diego.
Emmy loved to laugh. She adored entertaining, dancing, gardening and being surrounded by her family at home. She brought joy to the people who knew her.
Emmy is survived by five children. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the
San Diego Salvation Army, Door of Hope.
