After graduating from Wicomico Senior High School in 1960 she entered the Peninsula General Hospital School of Nursing, where she became a registered nurse in 1964. She started her nursing career as a second lieutenant in the Air Force and was stationed in Alexandria, LA. There she met and married James R. Baker and gave birth to her daughter Michele. Shortly after moving to California, she retired from the Air Force as a captain. Sandra continued working as a registered nurse at Peninsula General (PRMC) until retiring in 2011.
Throughout her life, Sandra demonstrated her creativity. At fifteen, she enjoyed experimenting with makeup and hairstyles. (She often shared the story of the time when she was in the Air Force, and one of the men threw her into a pool just to ruin her perfectly styled hair.) She believed that she inherited her artistic skills from both her mother, a retired hairdresser, and her father, a painter and decorator for years in Salisbury. She demonstrated a real flair for home décor and gardening design, especially with roses. She also enjoyed collecting antiques, especially glassware, which she marketed in a small business.
Guiding and nurturing her daughter Michele gave Sandra the most satisfaction. She provided a strong foundation in faith by sending Michele to St. Francis de Sales School and becoming a life-long member of the church. Sandra continued to guide her daughter throughout her college years at SSU. Much later in life, Sandra and Michele enjoyed taking trips together, especially to Maine.
Sandra is survived by two sisters, Adrienne Agnew, Kathy Biddle (Henry), and a niece, Erin Biddle. In addition to her parents, Sandra was preceded in death by her nephew, Christopher Biddle.
