Lowell M. Merriman, 94, of South Whitley, passed away Saturday afternoon in the Whitley County hospital where he had been a patient just two days. He had been in ill health only one week.
A South Whitley resident all his life, Mr. Merriman was born on October 5, 1872, a son of Dr. Elijah and Rebecca Parrett Merriman. His wife Alice Belle Monks, preceded him in death in 1950.
A retired mail carrier for the South Whitley Post Office, Mr. Merriman began work as a rural mail carrier on March 1,1904, a job he maintained until his retirement on May 21, 1934.
He was a member of the South Whitley Baptist Church and the I.O.O.F.Lodge.
His only survivors are several nieces and nephews. He was a great uncle of Phil and Max Glassley of South Whitley.
Memorial services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock in the Miller Funeral Home with the Rev. Ross Cook, officiating. Burial was in the South Whitley cemetery.
