His first marriage is unknown but he was referred to in his second marriage record as a widower. He was married second to Lillie Batten on December 9, 1891 in what was then Princess Anne County, Virginia (now city of Virginia Beach). He was married third to Ethel T. Payne on May 12, 1903 in Princess Anne County, Virginia.
