Mariellen C. Sabato, 99, formerly of Deerfield, IL, died peacefully on March 28, 2021 in South Bend, IN. Born in Chicago on May 7, 1921, she grew up in Wilmette and attended St. Scholastica HS. She married Anthony Sabato (d. 2001) in 1944 and settled in Deerfield. A member of Deerfield Citizens for Human Rights, she advocated for open housing. Elected to the Lake County Board in 1974, she worked to expand Lake County Forest Preserves. She earned a Masters degree from NIU in 1982. Mariellen is survived by her 8 children; Joanne (Thomas) Frankenfield, Francis (Melinda) Sabato, David (Mitzi) Sabato, Toni (Rick) Hover, Rita (Thomas) Roberts, Monica Roche, Daniel (Margaret) Sabato, Edward (Elizabeth) Sabato, 17 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Mass will be celebrated on June 5th at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Deerfield with burial at Ascension Cemetery in Libertyville.
