J.E. Whitaker, 42, partner in and manager of the Paris Hide and Fur Company, died Wednesday Apr 2, 1958 at 9 p.m. in a Paris hospital where he had been a patient 11 weeks. He lived at 838 E. Price St. Funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Fry Gibbs chapel by the Rev. H. W. Blackshear of Calvary Methodist Church, where Mr. Whitaker was a member. Burial will be made in Evergreen Cemetery. James Elbert Whitaker, son of T.R. and Georgia (Newsom) Whitaker, was born at Direct, Jan. 16, 1916, and attended school there. He married Miss Jessie Mae Doolin in Paris, Sept. 24, 1938. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce here and of Gordon Country Club, and was on the state egg advisory board which informs the Dept. of Agriculture on egg laws. Besides his wife and his mother, now of Paris, he leaves these children; Thomas Edgar Whitaker, Texas A&M College student; Gail Elizabeth Whitaker and Carolyn Ann Whitaker, Paris; two sisters, Mrs. Tony Manuel, Wichita Falls, and Mrs. Lee Todd, Rt. 2, Sumner; a brother, Edward Whitaker, Whittier, Alaska, and these half-brothers; Elmer Whitaker, Shreveport, La., W.S. Benningfield, Greenville, and S.E. Benningfield, Paris.
