Mrs. D.A. Burton, Sr. a widow died at home at Direct, Sunday afternoon May 7, 1950 at 3:30 o'clock. She had been confined to bed by illness the past three yrs. The funeral was arranged for 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon May 8 at the Forest Chapel Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. J.L. Wideman. Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home had charge of interment in Forest Chapel Cemetery. Named as pallbearers were Floyd Caviness, T.J. Shipman, A.B. Posey, E.A. Hysaw, E.L. Self and J.T. Townsend. Mrs. Burton was formerly Miss Martha Emerson. Surviving are three sons; D.A. Burton and Clint Burton, Direct and Claude Burton, Paris and these children by a former marriage; J.F. Sullivan and J.R. Sullivan of Winfield, LA. and Mrs J.A. Hill, Texarkana, and a number of other descendants, besides these half-sisters; Mrs. Mary Shalors, Larue; Mrs. Emma McGee and Mrs. L.D. Beal, Goldonna, LA; and Mrs. Rose Kennedy, Shreveport, LA. Mr. Burton died in 1918.
