He married Grace Marguerite "Marge" Thomas 1907–1992, and had two children, including a daughter, Donna Marsha Berman 1942–2017. His brother David Berman died in 1957, making him caretaker and favorite uncle to his niece Susie Berman. He died on September 11, 1978, in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 70.
