The son of John and Ann Hill nee Goodpaster and one of seven children. Jefferson grew up on the farm, he listed 'Farmer' as his occupation when he enlisted.
Parents married on July 1st, 1830, her 2nd husband.

MARRIAGES:
-In 1858, just a few months shy of his 20th birthday, Jefferson married Abigail Eliza Carr on August 30th in Clermont County,Oh. He had two children with her: Thomas J. and Cora
(No divorce records were ever recovered)

Possible wife: Alice Meyers (listed on John Hill's death certificate 1869-1947)

The Sharonville Historical Society notes a fourth wife listed in Hill's pension file.
-Married Mary E. Hill (nee Hogan) b.1846-1932 had 4 children. Jefferson is listed as her husband on her death certificate.

CIVIL WAR:
Jefferson was just 25 years old when he volunteered for the 4Th OHIO CALVARY (UNION) on December 17th, 1863.

Assigned Company I, He was appointed Corporal on Nov. 1st, 1864. Mr. Hill was shot in the upper right back, the mine ball tore through into his right shoulder on April 2nd, 1865 in action at Selma, Ala. he was discharged August 15th, 1865.
This injury rendered him unable to work and relied on his pension.

Mustered out Aug. 15th, 1865. 1 YEAR 7 MONTHS 28 DAYS in service.

BATTLES SERVED:
-Atlanta Campaign: May 7 – Sept. 2, 1864 (Union Victory)
-Sandtown: Sept. 1
-Wilsons: March–April 1865/Operation in Alabama and GA. (Union Victory)

Infantry units were men fighting on foot, cavalry units were soldiers on horseback.
