York, South Carolina - Mr. Carlin Curtis Sigmon, 90, passed away Monday, January 10th at home surrounded by his family. Curtis was the son of Carlin Blaine Sigmon and Elma Allie Mae Ballard Sigmon of Alexis, NC. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 14, 2022 at two PM at Trinity United Methodist Church in York with Rev. Wanda Altman-Shirah officiating. Visitation begins at 12:30 at Trinity UMC. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in York.

Mr. Curtis was reared on a farm in Lincoln County, NC, married his high school sweetheart, Peggy, and served stateside in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He also served in the USAR before leaving military service as a Sergeant First Class to start an AM radio station in York, SC in 1956. He also started WCMJ-FM in Chester, SC in 1969 (now WBT-FM). WYCL (Great 98) became WBZK (K-99) in 1978 and WCMJ became WDZK. He sold WDZK in 1995 and retired when WBZK was sold in 2000. Curtis was a founding commissioner of York Technical College in Rock Hill, serving from 1962 until 1988 and serving six years as chairman of the York Tech Area Commission.

Mr. Curtis was pre-deceased by his wife of 62 years, Peggy Jean Cherry Sigmon. He is survived by three children: Major(R) Jeffrey Curtis Sigmon, Sr. (Susan) of York, SC, Dr. Monty L. Sigmon (Lorie) of Oak Island, NC, and Captain(R) Cheri Yvette Sigmon of Fort Mill, SC. Also survived by five grandchildren: Jeffrey Curtis Sigmon, Jr. (Lindsey), of Clover, SC, Courtney E. Sigmon of Clover, SC, Hayley M. Sigmon of Chicago, IL, Sean T. Sigmon of York and Connor J. Sigmon of Oak Island, NC. He also is survived by two great grandchildren: Aiden J. Sigmon and Jeffrey Curtis Sigmon, III of Clover, SC and by his brother, Milton H. Sigmon of Iron Station, NC. Further survived by numerous nieces and cousins.
