Ruby Bowers Smith, age 100, of Salisbury, formerly of Norwood, NC passed away Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Autumn Care of Salisbury, Salisbury, NC. Her graveside service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, October 4, 2017 in the Porter Cemetery, Norwood, NC with Melanie Smith officiating. There will be no formal visitation.
Mrs. Smith was born on February 6, 1917 in Stanly County, NC to the late Ernest Osteen Bowers and Cora Belle Honeycutt Bowers and was a homemaker.She was a member of Porter Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith was married to the late John Ray Smith who preceded her in death on April 1, 2006. She was also preceded in death by a sister Pearl.
Survivors include five sons; John R. Smith (Gayle) of Greensboro, NC, Sidney D. Smith (Melanie) of Shelby, NC, Darrow M. Smith (Kathy) of Norwood, N.C., Kevin L. Smith (Susan) of Salisbury, NC and Rodney J. Smith of Shelby, IN and five daughters; Belinda E. Smith of Fuquay Varina, NC, Yonia S. Cooper of Houston, TX, Judith S. Fowler of Knightdale, NC, Ruby S. Roach of Hope Mills, NC and Amelia S. Dennis (Willard) of Troy, NC, thirteen grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
