Born in Lincoln, South Dakota and raised in Rock Valley, IA. She was the daughter of the late Gysbert & Johanna Bakker of Rock Valley, IA. Johanna was the matriarch of the Catchot family and loved God with all her heart and shared her desire to have her family and friends saved. Her quiet talks with her children and grandchildren along with the example she set, to her request to share her desire one last time in her last days. When you walk into Johanna's home, you feel her presence along with the presence of God's love. What a testimony to her life.
Johanna met her loving husband of 62 years, Robert H. Catchot, Sr., in 1959 while in California. They lived throughout the US while Robert was in the USN. During this time, they had 4 children, Mary, Bob, Gary, and Judy. Their last move was to Norfolk, Virginia, where they reside. Johanna was a member of the Ocean View Christian Reformed Church. She enjoyed her Thursdays at Coaster Coffee coloring group with friends, where she quietly ministered and prayed for those in need. She also enjoyed the Wednesday Bible Study and made lasting friendships who continued to be part of her life even when she could no longer attend.
She was proceeded by her beloved sons, Robert H. Catchot, Jr. (Bob), and Gary O. Catchot, Sr., her brothers, Gysbert Bakker, Jr., Clarence Bakker, sisters, Bertha Leloux, Nellie Keizer, Lena Bakker, and brother-in-laws, Al Keizer, Gerritt Veldman, and Buzz Busby.
Survivors include her much-loved daughters, Mary J. Sweany and husband, Tony and Judy L. Durant. Johanna was "Nana" to 7 beautiful grandchildren, Rachel Garton, Gary O. Catchot, Jr., Robin L. Young, Clint Catchot, Sky Catchot, Justin Durant, and Zachary Catchot, and 9 wonderful great-grandchildren, Christian Catchot, Taylor Holcomb, Erica Young, Leann Catchot, Katelynn Catchot, Sky Young, Earl Young, Jr., Micheal Young, Hailey Daubert, and 1 sweet great-great grandchild, Kallie Catchot.
