DOUGHERTY -- Graveside rites for Jack Laverne Payne 69, were at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Dougherty Cemetery with Willard McCartney Jr. officiating.
Payne died April 6, 1998, at his home. He was born Dec. 30, 1928, in Havana, Ill., to Claude and Lilly Payne.
He was raised in Havana and lived in Ardmore before moving to Dougherty in 1983. He was a veteran and member of Dougherty Baptist Church.
Survivors include six sons, John, Dougherty, Doug, Sulphur, Terry, Denton, Texas, Troy, Shawn and Shannon, Mount Pleasant, Texas; three daughters, Lesa Shepard, Ardmore, Rhonda Cravett and Tina Payne, Gainesville, Texas; three sisters, Mary Ishmal, Edith Flaten and Brenda Payne, Havana; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, David.
