Carl Elson Bowen, 77, of Austin, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2007, at his home.

He retired as a postal supervisor from the Austin post office. He was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church in Austin, where he was a deacon for 53 years, an adult Sunday school teacher and choir director. He served on the school board of Scott County School District 1 and was the Deputy Jennings Township assessor for many years.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary McClain Bowen; three daughters, Debra Willoughby of Whiteland, Dana Hauer of Edinburgh and Dawn Roberts of Indianapolis; one brother, Eddie Bowen of Deputy; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Randal and Lola Bowen; and one brother, Harold Bowen.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Buchanan Funeral Home in Austin. Burial will be in Harrod Cemetery in Austin.

Friends may call at the funeral home today from 3:30 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the service.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the New Harmony Baptist Church or Harrod Cemetery. Donations can be made through the funeral home.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Buchanan Funeral Home with Rev. David Schill and Rev. Bud Walther officiating. Visitation will be 3:30-9 p.m. Tuesday and after 9 a.m. Wednesday at Buchanan Funeral Home.

Burial will be at Harrod Cemetery.
