Born July 22, 1955 in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Austin Joseph and Mildred Catherine (Barnhart) Barnhart.
Joe graduated from Greencastle-Antrim High School with the Class of 1973 and attended Vo-Tech.
He and his wife of nearly 20 years, Kimberly "Sue" (Forney) Barnhart, were married on March 23, 2002, in Chambersburg.
Throughout his life, Joe worked at Western Auto, various Napa Auto Parts stores in the local area, a mower repair business with his father, Hess Manufacturing and he was last employed for 10 years at the Alexander Hamilton Memorial Free Library, where he helped with genealogy.
He attended Blue Rock Church, Waynesboro and enjoyed genealogy, working on cars, Star Trek and his cat-Velvet.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sisters, Nancy Gift of Waynesboro and Catherine Thomas of Mercersburg, PA; one brother, Jeff A. Barnhart of Marion, PA; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Martha Justus.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, January 19, 2022 in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro with Pastor Lawton Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow in Quincy Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services, Wednesday morning, in the funeral home.
