Helen Sophie Sobowicz, 88, of Spring Road, North Haven, died Nov. 11, 2008, at the Hospital of St. Raphael. She was the wife of the late Joseph Sobowicz.
She was the daughter of the late John and Mary Awrajcewicz. Helen enjoyed her career as a lifelong waitress at Max's Alpine Inn and Dino's Restaurant before her retirement.
She is survived by her son, Joseph Sobowicz Jr., of Manchester; and her daughter, Maryanne Gherlone and her husband, David, of Sparta, N.J.; and grandchildren, Kenneth Tevald, of Wethersfield, Jennine Zorzi, and her husband, Kyle, of Charfort, Pa., Kristen Gherlone and her fiancee, John Dzialo, of Natick, Mass., and Joseph Michael Sobowicz, of Rocky Hill. Helen also has two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Troy Zorzi; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Stella Cambosis, Lottie Altieri, Charles Awrajcewicz, and Bernice Hilliard.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Stanislaus Church on Nov. 15. Burial was in All Saints Cemetery.
