Florence was born in Iowa. She met and married Edwin Bettinger when she was about 3 months along in a pregnancy. To her was born Harold Edwin Bettinger. Through the current use of DNA research, it has been established that Edwin was not his father. It is unknown what their relationship was but they remained, in name, married over the years. He left her, however, as part of his job for the railroad and because of his drinking. Whether he moved her to Sacramento to be closer to where he was working, or she moved there of her own accord is also unknown. Edwin's brother Horatio / Harry shows up in records which state that he was also married to Florence, but there are no state records to corroborate that, so they may just have been living together. Florence died at the age of 35 of peritonitis, according to her death information from County records.

According to a researcher in 1995, a Margaret Posehn:
"Florence is buried at the Sacramento City Cemetery, on 10th and Broadway. She
died on 8 Apr 1896, was 35 years old, a native of Iowa, housewife. She does not
have a headstone; did not purchase the plot herself. Is buried with the H. S. Green
family; she is next to Henry H. Green in Lot 762, recorded in Book A, pg 47."
