Gloria J. (Randall) Barbour, of Carmel, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many, went to live with her Lord and Savior Sunday, January 9, 2022. She was born to Paul and Iola Randall in Indianapolis on January 27, 1944.
Gloria lived on Park Avenue and attended public school in Indianapolis until her family moved to Lawrence when she was 8 years old. She graduated from Lawrence Central High School where she was a cheerleader for the Lawrence Central Bears and where she met her husband of 57 years. She was a graduate of Ball State University where she belonged to Alpha Phi sorority. She earned a B.A. degree in secondary education with a major in foreign language. Subsequently, Gloria taught at Warren Central High School, Ben Davis High School and North Central High School. She also taught in San Diego, California while her husband was stationed there in the Navy.
Gloria was married to her high school sweetheart on December 18, 1964 and was their sole support while he was in Dental School and during his Orthodontic residency. She retired from teaching shortly after the birth of the first of their 4 children.
She loved to travel and loved planning their many international and domestic trips almost as much as the trips themselves. She traveled with her husband to all but one of the 50 United States and all but 2 continents. Gloria was a 4-H Club Leader in Hamilton County for 30 years, and Co-President of the Carmel High School Band Boosters. She enjoyed playing golf at Woodland Country Club of Carmel and playing bridge monthly with her bridge group for more than 40 years. As an avid reader, Gloria devoured a plethora of mystery novels. She was the quintessential homemaker, cook, tutor and loving mother and most of all she loved to study the Bible and learn how she could best serve God. Her favorite Bible verse was Proverbs 3:5-6.
In addition to her parents, Gloria was preceded in death by her brother, Ralph Randall, and sister, Rita Kay Smith.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. John R. Barbour; daughter, Jennifer L. (Todd) Olges of Houston, Texas; son, Timothy J. (Katie) Barbour of Carmel, Indiana; son, Brian A. (Hanako) Barbour of New South Wales, Australia, and daughter, Debra J. (Ian) Falkenberg of Gloucester, Virginia; and eleven precious grandchildren.
Family and Friends will gather Monday, January 17, 2022 from 4-7 pm in Colonial Hills Baptist Church, 8140 Union Chapel Road, Indianapolis, IN 46240. The Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at 11 am in the church with calling one hour prior to the service.
