Davis Axel Roy Nashalook was born in Unalakleet, Alaska on April 23rd, 1948 to parents Henry Nashalook Sr. and Virginia (Soxie) Nashalook. Davis was the youngest son and the 9th of 13 children. He lived in Unalakleet until he left for Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas in 1967. Upon graduation from Haskell, Davis enlisted in the U.S. Army on December 10th, 1970.
Davis married Regina (Yazzie) Nashalook on August 7th, 1971 in San Ildefonso Pueblo, New Mexico. After serving his country, Davis was honorably discharged on May 6th, 1972. He and Regina relocated to Anchorage, Alaska thereafter.
Davis had a career in rural community development for over 20 years. He enjoyed spending his time fishing with his son, grandson and friends, bowling with wife and friends, hunting with son and friends, and watching his son and grandson play hockey. Davis was devoted to his Native community in many ways including the coordination of annual Christmas parties and summer picnics.
Davis is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Regina, son David Nashalook Sr., grandson David (DJ) Nashalook Jr., brother Emory Nashalook, sister Karen Nashalook, nieces, nephews, extended family and many dear friends. Davis is preceded in death by father Henry, mother Virginia, daughter Virginia Marie, brothers Gordon, Andrew, Henry Jr., and Lehman and sisters Ruth, Kay, Norma, Marilyn, and Carolyn.
Visitation and memorial services will be held at the First Covenant Church of Anchorage on Friday January 21st, 2022 at 2pm. Due to Covid restrictions, a small coffee reception will be held immediately after the services in the vestibule of the church. Burial services will be held at Fort Richardson National Cemetery, date yet to be determined. A celebration of life through the hosting of one of Davis' picnics will take place summer of 2022.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to BSNC or Native Village of Unalakleet
