James passed away on January 16, 2022 at the age of 92 in St. Joseph's Hospital Hospice. His first wife, Gisela M. Haertl (nee Viol) preceded him in death. He was the Loving father of Christopher (Becky Van Dam), Thomas (Valerie), Patricia Haertl, and Julie Haertl-Bush. He is also survived by nine grandchildren; One great grandchild is due in April 2022; in addition to many caring family and friends. James was a retired city of Milwaukee employee. He was known in his community for his apricot trees and his talent for growing an abundant crop of apricots in his own urban corner lot. He was a United States Air Force Veteran of the Korean War era. A Visitation was held on Saturday, January 22, at the Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin from 9:30 AM until time of Funeral. Funeral service was held at 11 :00 AM. A procession to Holy Cross Cemetery followed for Interment.
