J. Arthur Swope ( also known as Jay.
Arthur by friends and family, and James A. Swope in the 1900 census)

He was the son of of John Calvin and Lavinia Jeffries Swope of Lancaster Pa.

J. Arthur married Edith Miller Groff June 26, 1912 in Lancester Co. Pennsylvania, and honeymooned at Niagara Falls NY.

A member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

Opperated grest mill with Raymond Groff in 1913 living next to the mill in Strasburg Pike along Mill Creek, across from the Groff family home.

He then worked for the Armstrong Cork Company and moved his family to Lancaster.

During the depression he and his family lived at 39 Pearl Street in Lancaster with his mother Lavinia Jeffries Swope.

Retired in 1951 as an architectural draftsman in the engineering department of Armstrong Cork Company.

Later he bought a house at 8 Harvard Ave. in Lancaster where he spent the remainder of his life with his loving wife Edith.

He and Edith had three children:

Robert Groff Swope married Helen May Roher,
Donald Groff Swope married Helen Beatrice Gerlitzki,
and,
Dorothy Groff Swope married Walter Salisbury Niblett.

J. Arthur Swope was soft spoken, and well read.

He was 5'8" and had lovely clear blue eyes and medium brown hair.
