Laura Miriam Weidman, 91, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away Friday morning, January 21, 2022, at Winfield Rest Haven.

Born September 20, 1930, in Douglass, Kansas, she was the daughter of John and Ina (Hicks) Berger. Laura was raised and educated in Douglass, graduating from Douglass High School. After several years, Laura returned to school and received a Master's degree from Wichita State University in Art Education.

Laura was united in marriage to Hubert Weidman. The couple lived with family near Viola, Kansas, for a time before establishing a home in Denver, Colorado. Laura and Hubert had two children and later divorced.

Laura then moved to Winfield to be near her family and lived there the remainder of her life. She worked in printing and taught an art class at St. John's College. Laura also worked for Walmart and Serendipity which was part of the Winfield State Hospital and Training Center.

She enjoyed anything related to art, especially painting with oils. Laura also liked making jewelry, reading and watching mysteries, attending her grandchildren's activities, and hosting weekly family meals. She had a special place in her heart for her cats throughout the years, Emerald, Snowball, Cocoa, and Saphire.

Her family includes her children, Teresa Mugler; Eric Weidman; 3 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and a niece and nephew.

In addition to her parents, Laura was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Berger.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, January 27, 2022, at Miles Funeral Service. A private family burial will follow at the Douglass Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in Laura's name for the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
